Philippine Consulate General in Agana Launches “Pintig ng Sining”

AGANA 20 February 2024— In celebration of Philippine National Arts Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Guam launched its art exhibit “Pintig Ng Sining” (ArtBeat) at Sentro Rizal Agana on 10 February 2024. The launch and ribbon-cutting were led by Philippine Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, Guam Vice Speaker Tina Muña Barnes, Senator Amanda Shelton, Senator Sabina Perez and Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) Acting Executive Director Angie Taitague. Esteemed members of the Filipino community and partners from the media were present during the event.
The art exhibit features the artworks of eight (8) Guam-based Filipino-American artists, namely, Rubyjane Buhain-Redila, Mar-Vic Cagurangan, Shelly Calvo, Ico Munar, Liam Padua, Jay Redila, Merc Tenorio and Rolly Zepeda. The exhibit aims to showcase Philippine artistry and creative talent of the featured Fil-Am artists in Guam.
Consul General Lemque, along with the eight artists, was conferred Resolution No. 315-37 by the 37th Guam Legislature, recognizing their initiative in highlighting the talents of the Filipino artists by providing a platform to showcase their works and commending them for their continued efforts to promote Filipino culture on Guam.
In her remarks, Consul General Lemque stated, “I wish to convey my appreciation to our esteemed guests headed by Vice Speaker Tina Muňa Barnes for gracing our event as our Guest of Honor. You have been a great supporter of the Consulate General’s advocacy to strengthen the cultural ties between the Philippines and Guam. Thank you for recognizing our efforts and the cultural contributions of Filipino artists to the island of Guam.”
CAHA Acting Executive Director Angie Taitague also expressed her office’s continued support to the Consulate’s cultural programs and activities. She likewise conveyed her support to the featured artists by inviting them to come to her office to discuss future collaborations.
Noey Lee and Raylene DeBenedictis, High School students of St. John’s School of Guam performed violin rendition of popular Filipino classical songs during the launch to give enjoyment to the attendees.
The exhibit is open to the public from 12 to 29 February 2024, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except during holidays. END
