CHONGQING 26 February 2024 – In observance of the Philippines’ National Arts Month, personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing visited the Chongqing Art Museum in Yuzhong District with a view to exploring common themes in Philippine and Chinese art on 22 February 2024.
Currently on exhibit at the Museum are 100 pieces representative of Chinese traditional art such as lacquer, wood and jade sculptures, paintings and calligraphy, and fine embroidery. The museum tour afforded Consulate personnel the opportunity to appreciate Chongqing’s intangible cultural heritage and to reflect on Chinese influences on Filipino arts and culture in the course of centuries-old people-to-people engagements.
Philippine Consul General to Chongqing Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo emphasized the powerful role of the arts in deepening cultural understanding for a more effective conduct of Philippine diplomacy. “Art breaks down language barriers. The pieces on display speak volumes about the Chinese people’s love for beauty and quest for aesthetic excellence. Here, we find common ground on which we can strengthen the friendship between our peoples on the strength of our shared creative spirit,” noted Consul General Mayo at the end of the visit.
