PH Embassy Conducts First Episode of LA Historia Olvidada: Filipinas-Mexico 2024

MEXICO 27 February 2024- The Philippine Embassy in Mexico in coordination with Dr. Tomas Calvillo of El Colegio de San Luis conducted the first episode of “La Historia Olvidada: Filipinas-México 2024”; a virtual colloquium series on Philippine-Mexico relations, on 16 February 2024 via Zoom with more than 100 participants including those who attended via the Embassy´s YouTube channel. 

Mr. Xabier Agote Aizpurua, shipwright and founder of Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria (a maritime museum and shipyard in Spain) talked about “Maritime Heritage as Social Development Factor and the Characteristics of the First Manila Galleon”. 

He emphasized the importance of maritime heritage in promoting culture and history, as well as its impact on economy and society. His presentation also centered on the characteristics of the first Manila Galleon, including its technology, route, and significance in the history of the Philippines and Mexico.

This virtual colloquium series highlights pivotal events and contexts that have shaped the engagements between the Philippines and Mexico, spanning from the sixteenth century to the contemporary period.
