MANAMA 29 February 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, in collaboration with the Filipino community organization Filipino Creatives Bahrain, marked National Arts Month through the conduct of two workshops on Acrylic Painting and on Film Editing with the theme “Sa Bintana ng Batang Malikhain” (On the Window of the Creative Child) at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal on 23 February 2024.

Twenty-three (23) Theater and Visual Clubs students from the Philippine School Bahrain (PSB participated in the workshops. The final output of the students will be presented and an awarding ceremony will be held also at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal on 08 March 2024.

The main objectives of these workshops are to nurture the students’ talents and artistic skills and to showcase art through the eyes of the youth, in line with the 2024 National Arts Month (NAM) theme, “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain” (Harvest of Art, Creative Nation).

In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Anne Jalando-on Louis noted that the theme of the 2024 NAM denotes that the bountiful harvest of a Filipino creative nation is drawn from the products of human imagination, not just of individuals but of people as a collective. She highlighted that the workshops coincided with the launch in the Philippines of the NAM celebration at the Rizal High School in Pasig City with more than 14,000 students from different areas of the country. Amb. Louis thanked Filipino Creative Bahrain for their support for the NAM celebration and the members of the Philippine School Bahrain for their active participation in the workshops.

The facilitator for the Workshop on Film Editing was Mr. Emmanuel Joseph “EJ” Reyes, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Film from Full Sail University, Florida, USA. He has extensive experience in the film industry both internationally and locally in Bahrain. He has done over 600 videos and films and has collaborated with international brands and corporations.

On the other hand, the Acrylic Painting Workshop was facilitated by Ms. Jeah Valerio, a graduate of mathematics from the University of the Philippines. She is a finance manager by profession, but is a visual artist by passion. Ms. Valerio participated in several art exhibitions in the Philippines and in Bahrain and hopes that her artworks could inspire the younger generation to pursue art as a medium to reflect one’s life and personality.

The teachers and students of PSB expressed their appreciation to the Embassy and to Filipino Creatives Bahrain for organizing the workshops and inspiring the students to further develop their artistic talents. The second and final session of the workshops, when the final output of the students will be presented, will be held on 08 March 2024. END
