BARCELONA 01 March 2024 — In a move to harness insights from the private sector, the Philippine Consul General in Barcelona Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro hosted a gathering of Filipino telco and tech companies participating in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona on 26-28 February 2024. This initiative, through a reception at the Consulate General on Sunday, 25 February 2024 attended by executives from the biggest tech and network companies from the Philippines, underscores the Consulate's commitment to learning from seasoned participants and leveraging their experiences to enhance the Philippines' presence in future editions of the MWC.

The meeting aimed to create a dialogue between the Consulate and private sector representatives, focusing on the intricacies of participating in one of the world's most significant tech events. By understanding the challenges and opportunities encountered by Filipino companies at the MWC, the Consulate seeks to strategize more effective ways of promoting the Philippine tech industry on a global stage.

The private sector present, representatives of the main telcos, were enthusiastic and supportive of the Consulate’s key aspiration which was discussed during the gathering—the possibility of establishing a Philippine pavilion at future MWC events. Such a pavilion would serve as a formal and consolidated representation of the country's burgeoning tech sector, showcasing the Philippines' innovative capabilities and offering a unified platform for Filipino tech companies to gain international exposure.

"This marks the first occasion we have hosted Filipino participants of the Mobile World Congress, underscoring our ambition to bring Philippine innovation and technology to the forefront of the international arena," remarked Consul General Lazaro. "We earnestly seek the private sector's collaboration and expertise to elevate our national tech presence on the world stage and showcase the dynamic capabilities of the Philippines."

This engagement reflects the Consulate's proactive approach to bolstering the Philippine tech brand and its ambition to ensure that the nation's tech capabilities and creative industries are showcased to the world. Through collaborative efforts with the private sector, the Consulate aims to pave the way for a stronger and more visible Philippine presence at subsequent Mobile World Congresses. END
