Promoting Unity in Diversity: ASEAN Committee in Amman Meets with Minister of Culture

AMMAN 25 March 2024 – On 18 March 2024, the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) led by the Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos, as the ACA Chairperson, met with Jordan Culture Minister Haifa Al-Najjar at the Royal Cultural Center to discuss ways to deepen collaboration and advance the ASEAN agenda in Jordan through cultural diplomacy initiatives.

 

During the meeting, Ambassador Santos mentioned some of the proposed activities of ACA that could increase the level of interaction between ASEAN member states and the host country. The ACA Ambassadors concurred and also highlighted their own initiatives that could lead to more cultural exchanges and joint projects with Jordan.

 

Minister Najjar signified her interest in strengthening the Kingdom’s ties with ASEAN. She further acknowledged that ACA’s initiatives could showcase the rich diversity and heritage of respective countries, which could significantly contribute to Jordan’s diverse culture. She also emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating the differences that make each culture unique, as it could build bridges that transcend boundaries and bring people closer together.

 

The meeting set a positive and inclusive tone towards the cooperation between ASEAN and Jordan for enhanced cultural diplomacy, through unity in diversity, as agreed by both sides. This highlights the strength that comes from embracing diversity and working together towards common goals, despite varied cultures, perspectives and experiences. The meeting also signified a commitment to building a more interconnected and harmonious relations where cultural diversity is embraced and celebrated.

 

The ACA is composed of the resident Ambassadors of five ASEAN member states represented in Jordan, namely, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. END
