Mongolian Students Immerse in Filipino Culture in Beijing
BEIJING 26 March 2024 – A delegation of 11 Mongolian students visited the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and immersed into Filipino culture and hospitality through the Embassy’s “Hello, Philippines” program on 18 March 2024.
The students, ranging in age from 12 to 17 years old, came all the way from Ulaanbaatar for a series of active learning engagements in Beijing. Members of their school faculty, one of whom is a Filipino, also joined the trip.
Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime A. FlorCruz welcomed the children and shared pieces of information about Filipino culture and traditions.
The Ambassador answered questions about his work as a diplomat and provided insights into the Philippines and Mongolia’s bilateral ties, which marked its golden anniversary in 2023. Noting the presence of the students’ Filipino teacher, he put a spotlight on the role of Filipinos in Mongolia in stimulating people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Most of the students have not yet been to the Philippines.
The students further received a short lecture about Philippine geography, heritage sites and international relations. They engaged in other topics such as the West Philippine Sea, history and cuisine, bringing their own experiences as Mongolians to the table.
To complete their immersion, the students partook in a typical Filipino “pananghalian” or lunch of chicken “adobo” and steamed rice with “leche flan” for dessert.
“Hello, Philippines” is a flagship cultural diplomacy initiative for young pupils with an interest in knowing more about the country. END
