Philippine Embassy Launches 3rd Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada in Ottawa

OTTAWA 03 April 2024 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada officially launched the third iteration of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) on 27 March 2024 at Sanduk Restaurant.

In her opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria encouraged the guests to not only savor delicious Filipino cuisine, but also get a taste of the Filipino experience, to not only appreciate Filipino food but also recognize and support the Filipino-owned businesses in Canada.

A video of FRMC sponsors and exciting raffle draw prizes were presented. Mr. Marlon “Macky” Abulencia, a representative from Sanduk restaurant, explained the menu of the day while the Department of Tourism’s video of “Love the Food” was played during the launch.

Guests were served with Filipino cuisine and Pampanga’s best tofu and crispy pork kare-kare, pork and milkfish sisig, pancit, pork and chicken barbecue, Angeles’ street food, salabat, maja blanca and halo-halo.

Sanduk is one of the five participating restaurants in FRMC 2024 under Post’s jurisdiction. It serves Filipino cuisine of Pampanga and is located at 91 Holland Avenue Ottawa. Other FRMC participating restaurants of Eastern Canada are Tamis Cafe and Tulip restaurant at Hilton Garden Inn, both in Ottawa; Silong Express in Halifax and Sinaing - Home of Filipino Cuisine in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador.

A total of 41 restaurants representing the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan are participating in Filipino Restaurant Month by offering prix fixe menus to its customers this April. Diners who will visit any of the participating restaurants will have a chance to win local and national prizes. 

Spearheaded by the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, FRMC is part of Philippine Posts in Canada's Common Cultural Calendar and conducted in partnership with the Philippine Department of Tourism - San Francisco and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Filipino Restaurant Month brings focus to the rich diversity of Filipino cuisine available through the various Filipino restaurants in Canada and in celebration of the Filipino Food Month in the month of April.
