Ambassador Palec delivers his lecture on UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea
ATHENS 08 April 2024 – Philippine Ambassador to Greece Giovanni E. Palec gave a lecture on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea on 02 April 2024 at the Webster University - Athens Campus. The lecture was attended by 16 students of different nationalities, which included a Filipino, who are taking studies in International Relations, Political and Social Sciences and Communications at the said university. Prof. Vasilis J. Botopoulos, Rector and Managing Director of the Webster University - Athens Campus, was also present during the discussion.
During the discussion, the attendees gained more awareness on UNCLOS, the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea and the concerns and challenges faced by the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.
During the open forum, Ambassador Palec and the students actively engaged in a discussion wherein the students raised their concerns on the West Philippine Sea issue and asked further questions to gain more understanding on the subject. The students also expressed their interest and inquired about the Philippine’ history and culture and the PH-Greece bilateral relations.
Ambassador Palec’s lecture is part of the “Ambassador Forum Lecture Series” which has been organized by the Webster University - Athens Campus since 2004 for all its students.
Around 300 students are currently enrolled at the university. END
