Philippines Makes Historic Debut at the 2024 Bologna Children’s Book Fair
BOLOGNA 24 April 2024 – The Philippines made history as it marked its first-ever participation in the prestigious 2024 Bologna Children's Book Fair, held from April 8 to 11 at the Bologna Fiere Exhibition Center.
This landmark participation coincided perfectly with the Philippines' National Literature Month celebration, themed "Ang Panitikan at Kapayapaan.” This powerful theme highlights the unifying and transformative power of literature, a value that the Philippines believes strongly resonates within the world of children's books.
The Philippine delegation led by National Book Development Board (NBDB) Governing Board member Mary Ann Ordinario and Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) Secretary General Ani Almario included NBDB officials, publishers, authors, and illustrators. The delegation, with over 1,500 exhibitors from around 100 countries, represented the Philippines on the global stage of children's content.
In his remarks, Consul General Elmer G. Cato expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share the wonders of Philippine children’s literature on the global stage. He acknowledged the support provided by Senator Loren Legarda, which made the Philippines' participation in this prestigious event possible.
This historic debut paves the way for future Philippine participation in international events like the Bologna Children's Book Fair, fostering cultural exchange and promoting the richness of Philippine children's literature to a global audience. END
