HONOLULU 29 April 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu hosted the Hawaii leg of the Filipino Young Leaders Program’s (FYLPRO) Magiting Conference last April 25. Under the initiative of Dr. Constancio Paranal III of FYLPRO Batch 2022, Honolulu-based FYLPRO alumni and board members urged prospective applicants to indicate their interest in being a part of this year’s program, with the application period beginning this April 29.

In his remarks, Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Emil Fernandez recalled FYLPRO’s inception in 2012, as the officer tasked by then Ambassador Jose Cuisia to oversee its implementation. He cited engagement with the youth as among the advocacies of the former ambassador and Mrs. Vicky Cuisia. He also shared in the belief that it is the younger segment of the diaspora that can effect change in their respective communities, deepen the two countries’ ties, and effectively promote the interests of Filipinos and the Philippines.

FYLPRO alumni, including Dr. Paranal, Ms. Elizabeth Frilles (Batch 2016), Rep. Trish La Chica (Batch 2023), Mr. Brandon Dela Cruz (Batch 2016), Mr. Danicole Ramos (Batch 2022) and Mr. Sergio Alcubilla (Batch 2019), shared their experiences with regard to

FYLPRO’s application process, the week-long trip to the Philippines, and the profound impact the program has made to their professional and personal lives.

Since 2012, 11 young leaders from Hawaii have been selected as FYLPRO delegates, taking part in the immersion program in the Philippines with an itinerary that included engagements with the movers and shakers of Philippine business, governments, academe and civil   society.   More   information    on    FYLPRO    may   be    found at https://fylpro.org.
