LONDON 30 April 2024 – A series of photographs of ancestral and historical mansions of Filipino sugar planters taken by UK-based Irish photographer and visual artist Ms. Siobhan Doran won first prize in the Architecture and Design category of the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 organized by the World Photography Organization.

The pictures form part of a book co-authored by Doran and Ms. Gina Consing McAdam entitled Houses that Sugar Built: An Intimate Portrait of Philippine Ancestral Homes.

Doran said, “My aim was to capture the soul of the houses. Because of this project I also discovered the Philippines, with its fascinating history, beautiful heritage architecture and many warm and kind people. I hope to return one day.”

The competition drew over 350,000 entries worldwide. END
