Ambassador Igor G. Bailen and Innostranka's Deputy Director General for Interregional and International Cooperation Mr. Miguel H. Palacio posed for a commemorative photo after the signing of the cooperation agreement.

MOSCOW 02 May 2024 – Ambassador Igor G. Bailen led the team from the Philippine Embassy in Russia to the official turn-over of the books for donation to the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, colloquially known as Innostranka (The Foreigner). The turnover ceremony is in celebration of the Philippine National Month of  Literature, which is commemorated every April.

Ambassador Bailen met with Innostranka's Deputy Director General for Interregional and International Cooperation Mr. Miguel H. Palacio, to sign the deed of donation and agreement for cooperation. The agreement aims to foster literary exchange between the Russian Federation and the Philippines, marking a significant milestone in cultural diplomacy.

In a gesture of goodwill, Post donated several titles, including Filipino translations of Leo Tolstoy’s renowned masterpiece, "War and Peace," and selected poems by Russian writer and poet Anna Akhmatova. This donation marks a historic moment as it introduces the Filipino language as the 154th language represented in Innostranka's diverse catalog of foreign books.

As part of the collaboration, Post was granted a comprehensive tour of Innostranka's complex, featuring the library courtyard of statues and busts of eminent international literary figures and heroes. Additionally, Post explored the various departments of the library, gaining insight into its rich history and unparalleled collection.

Established in 1921 as the All-Soviet Library for Foreign Literature, Innostranka continues its legacy as the Library for Foreign Literature named after Margarita Rudomina. Renowned for its unparalleled collection of foreign books and unique volumes of seminal world literature, Innostranka stands as a beacon of cultural exchange and appreciation. END
