16 July 2013 -  Philippine Consul General in Manado Jose D.R. Burgos paid a call courtesy on South Minahasa Regent Christiany Eugenia Paruntu at the Office of the Regent of South Minahasa, Amurang City, North Sulawesi on May 31, to discuss economic and investment opportunities open for Filipino investors in Amurang.

Also discussed were ongoing interconnectivity projects between Southern Mindanao and North Sulawesi, in particular the possibility of including Amurang in the Davao/Gensan-Bitung Roll-on/Roll-off shipping project, slated for August 2013, as well as plans to re-establish direct flights between Davao and Manado.

The Consul General underscored the great economic potential between Amurang and Southern Mindanao, particularly in infrastructure, medicine and education, including aviation/flying training. For her part, the Regent was keen on greater Philippine investments in Amurang, and proposed joint development with the Philippines, in the form of the Amurang local government donating property to interested Filipino investors.

Amurang is a district as well as the capital city of South Minahasa regency. The city is 425 miles (685km) from Davao city and two (2) hours from Manado City via the Trans-Sulawesi Highway. Its location makes it a natural harbour (Amurang Bay), with the vast landholdings and access to the regional capital of Manado. Amurang is also in the process of strengthening its local infrastructure, with the widening of the Trans-Sulawesi highway connecting Manado to Amurang into a six-lane road and the development of its own local port.
