Philippines-Slovak Republic Business Forum Sparks Interest Between Key Industries

Philippine Honorary Consul General in Bratislava Pavol Konstiak welcomes business and industry leaders from the Philippines and across the Slovak Republic at the opening of the Business Forum in Bratislava.

BRATISLAVA 16 May 2024 – Business leaders from the largest industries in the Slovak Republic expressed enthusiasm and great interest in collaborating with Filipino companies at the Philippines-Slovak Republic Business Forum last 25 April in Bratislava. The Business Forum was hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Vienna to help expand existing trade and investment relations between both countries.   

The Philippine delegation, composed of private sector representatives from the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. (SEIPI), Grupo EMS, and Integrated Micro-electronics Inc., highlighted economic synergies between the semiconductor and electronics industry of the Philippines and the automobile industry of the Slovak Republic. 

“It has been a while since a delegation from the Philippines came to look at investment and trade opportunities in the Slovak Republic. But I hope that this is not the last. I look forward to organizing a business delegation from the Slovak Republic to go to the Philippines,” said Ambassador Evangelina Bernas.  

Embassy partners for the business forum included the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Berlin (PTIC-Berlin), the Philippine Honorary Consulate General (PHCG) in Bratislava, and the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO). 

In 2023, the Slovak Republic ranked as the Philippines’ 68th largest trading partner, with total bilateral trade amounting to $38.94 million. Top Philippine commodity exports to the Slovak Republic include digital monolithic integrated circuits, semiconductor devices, and electrical and electronic machinery, among others. END
