Philippines and Malaysia Celebrate 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations
18 May 2024 – The Republic of the Philippines and Malaysia celebrate the 60th anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations today, 18 May 2024.
To commemorate this significant milestone, the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur proudly shares the 60thanniversary logo that incorporates Sampaguita and Bunga Raya, the national flowers of Philippines and Malaysia, respectively, symbolizing the friendship of both nations and their intertwined history, culture, and heritage as brothers and sisters within the ASEAN region.
The logo was designed by Mr. Jayven Villamater, a Filipino engineer. It was selected by a panel of judges among 54 entries submitted by talented Filipino and Malaysian contestants.
The Philippine Embassy is organizing a year-long celebration to mark the important milestone, starting with the event entitled “Islam: Weaving Stories and Art in the Philippines,” which was held at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia on 16 May 2024.
The establishment of diplomatic relations of the two nations began in 1959 when the Philippine legation was established in Kuala Lumpur, and was formally instituted as a consulate on 18 May 1964. Since then, the Philippines and Malaysia have maintained a steadfast commitment to mutual respect and cooperation. Both countries have worked together to enhance bilateral ties, contributing to peace, regional stability, and mutual prosperity. END
