THE HAGUE 20 May 2024 – Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya, Acting President of the PCA Administrative Council, presented the Philippine donation of custom-made commemorative pins for the 125th Anniversary of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in a turn-over ceremony during a meeting of the Special Working Group on 17 May at the Peace Palace in The Hague.

Manufactured in Manila, the pins were presented by Ambassador Malaya to French Ambassador Francois Alabrune, Chair of the Special Working Group, and PCA Secretary General Marcin Czepelak. The pin carries the phrase “125th Anniversary 1899-2024” and the seal of PCA.

Ambassador Malaya also conveyed thanks to the Special Working Group for their hard work to prepare for the Congress of the Members of the Court on 12 to 14 June, only the third such Congress in the PCA’s 125-year history. “Since the establishment of the Special Working Group in April last year, we have made significant progress by working diligently towards ensuring the successful conduct of the Congress. The pins will serve as a fitting memento of this historic conference,” Ambassador Malaya said.

The commemorative pins will be distributed to the Members of the Court, the Members of the Administrative Council and other attendees of the June Congress.

The Special Working Group was created by the PCA Administrative Council to assist the International Bureau in preparing and planning meaningful commemorative activities for the 125th anniversary of the PCA, which will be highlighted by the convening of the Congress of the Members of the Court. It is chaired by France, with the Ambassadors of Colombia, Rwanda and Egypt as Vice Chairpersons. END
