PH Consulate General Proudly Showcases Culture, Heritage to Indonesian Students

MANADO 22 May 2024 – Philippine Consul General in Manado Mary Jennifer Domingo Dingal was invited to be a Guest/Resource Speaker at the Eben Haezer Educational Christian Foundation in Manado on 20 May 2024 for their cultural program dubbed, Indonesia x Philippines, which coincides with the Philippine National Heritage Month, I, therefore, took this opportunity to showcase Philippine culture, heritage, cuisine, art, and dance during the event to the 300 students who were in attendance.

The Eben Haezar Christian Foundation is an Indonesian school founded more than 50 years ago by the GMIM Church of Christ Manado. Since then, the Foundation has been providing excellent educational services to Indonesian students in Manado City and its nearby areas.

During the event, Consul General Dingal was an introduction of the Philippine history followed by a video presentation on Filipino culture/lifestyle, particularly, tourist destinations, cuisine art and music, and infrastructure. After the video presentation, an open forum facilitated by one of the faculty members followed. 

The students asked questions on the following:

1.         History of the Philippines and the legacy of its colonizers to its culture and heritage;

2.         The role and importance of the Consulate General in Manado; and

3.         Notable similarities between Philippine and Indonesian culture.

After the open forum, Consul General Dingal gave a dance demonstration on the basic steps for native Cordilleran dances using the song, Salidumay. Both students and teachers participated during the demonstration. END
