PH Consulate General in Agana Commemorates National Heritage Month through Philippine Folk Dance Workshop

AGANA 27 May 2024 - In observance of National Heritage Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam (Agana PCG) organized a folk dance workshop entitled, “Pamanang Sayaw: Philippine Folk Dance Workshop” at the Official Residence on 18 May 2024 for its personnel together with their spouses.

In her remarks, Consul General Rosario P. Lemque emphasized that folk dancing is an integral part of Philippine culture as Filipinos are expressive people. She further said that through the learning and practice of traditional dances, individuals develop discipline, respect, and socialization. Today’s event is a testament to the Consulate’s commitment in preserving Philippine cultural heritage.

The Consul General personally taught the basic steps in folk dance, bringing enthusiasm and expertise to the event, which aimed to foster camaraderie and a deeper appreciation of this important Filipino cultural heritage. 

Agana PCG personnel enjoyed learning the fundamental dance positions of Philippine folk dance as well as the basic steps in 3/4-time signature. The folk dance workshop aimed to further develop the dancing skills of its participants which will be useful should there be an opportunity for the Consulate to perform in future cultural events on the island.
