Philippine Chairmanship of 65th Session of CTBTO Administrative Working Group Lauded for Revived “Vienna Spirit”

VIENNA 31 May 2024 – The Philippine Permanent Mission in Vienna was lauded for its chairmanship of Working Group A of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Preparatory Commission at its Sixty-Fifth Session, with delegations expressing appreciation for the fair and balanced conduct  and bridge-building efforts of the Philippines that revived the renowned “Vienna Spirit” of consensus. The Working Group A session took place on 27-28 May 2024 at the United Nations Offices in the Vienna International Center.

CTBTO Executive Secretary Dr. Robert Floyd commended the Philippines’ leadership in assuming the Chairmanship of Working Group A, a subsidiary group within the CTBTO Preparatory Commission dedicated to the discussion of its budgetary and administrative matters. The Philippines strove to foster the “Vienna Spirit” of consensus among delegations by facilitating productive deliberations on a number of core issues, including ensuring the effective and efficient management of human and financial resources of the organization, as well as strengthening of gender parity, equitable geographical representation and multilingualism in the CTBTO Provisional Secretariat. The Working Group’s report, adopted by consensus, will be submitted to the 62nd Session of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission for deliberation in June. END
