TEHRAN 04 June 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Tehran proudly launched the “Threads of Friendship: The Barong Tagalog Virtual Exhibition in Iran”, a groundbreaking social media campaign aimed at fostering cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral ties between the Philippines and Iran. The project was conducted in celebration of National Heritage Month and the 60th Anniversary of Philippines-Iran Diplomatic Relations.

Philippine Ambassador Roberto G. Manalo emphasized the project's role in enhancing mutual understanding and appreciation between the two nations, especially during National Heritage Month, which highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. The virtual exhibition featured top Iranian model Parsa Barati elegantly donned in the iconic Barong Tagalog, a symbol of Filipino heritage and craftsmanship, captured against the picturesque backdrop of various sites across Iran. It showcases the universal appeal of Filipino National Men’s wear, and offers alternative formal attires for the sophisticated Iranian male through off-the-rack Barong Tagalog shirts available in many Philippine clothing stores.

Ambassador Manalo also underscored the project's significance in transcending geographical boundaries, noting how the Barong Tagalog has captivated hearts worldwide with its exquisite design and timeless allure. He highlighted its role as an emblem of cultural pride and sophistication, resonating with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Iranians. Looking ahead, Ambassador Manalo emphasized the importance of continuing to embrace opportunities for cultural exchange and collaboration.

To build upon the foundation laid by initiatives like the Barong Tagalog Virtual Exhibition Project to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation, the Philippine Embassy in Tehran plans to undertake a series of cultural events for the year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of Philippines-Iran bilateral relations. Ambassador Manalo expressed hope that the project would pave the way for even greater cultural cooperation and understanding between the peoples of the Philippines and Iran.
