PH Consulate General Launches Art Exhibition Celebrating 75 Years of Philippine - Canada Bilateral Relations

CALGARY 10 June 2024 – In celebration of 75 years of Philippines - Canada bilateral relations and Filipino Heritage Month in Alberta, the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary (PCG Calgary) held a vernissage for its third annual art exhibition entitled “Contemplating the Tapestry of Filipino - Canadian Connections” on 3 June 2024 at the Dr. Jose Rizal Hall of PCG Calgary.

The exhibition, which features 19 Filipino - Canadian artists as well as selected works from the students of the St. Oscar Romero High School of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is a collaboration with the Philippine Arts Council, and is curated by Ms. Ida Beltran Lucila. In his opening remarks during the exhibition, Acting Head of Post Victorio M. Dimagiba, Jr., noted that the art works of the artists “serve as bridges connecting our two countries, capturing the essence of their Filipino roots while embracing the Canadian experience.” In her video message, curator Ms. Ida Lucila shares that the exhibit features the ‘diverse cultural narratives, shared experiences between the Filipino and Canadian communities,” and that the exhibit also “weaves the intricate fabric of FIlipino - Canadian identity and heritage.”

The exhibit is the third such exhibition mounted by PCG Calgary featuring the works of Filipino-Canadian artists from across Alberta, and Saskatchewan, beginning with the “Alaala” Exhibition featuring two (2) artists from Regina, Saskatchewan (2022), and the “Malaya” Exhibition which featured six (6) artists from Calgary, Alberta.

The exhibit will run for the whole month of June 2024, Monday to Friday (except public holidays), 9:00 am to 4:00 pm., and is free to the public.
