Vancouver 47 July 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver participated in the 6th Annual Canada Day Parade on July 1 as part of this year’s activities to celebrate Canada’s 147th Anniversary. The parade which began at the corner of Georgia and Broughton Streets featured more than 50 contingents coming from various Canadian organizations and cultural groups which highlight Canada’s diversity and multiculturalism.

The Philippine float showcased the traditional bahay kubo with members of the Filipino-Canadian community proudly donning their Filipiniana attire followed by the Ati-Atihan and Igorot dance performers. Philippine Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer led the Consulate General personnel and their families during the parade to display their solidarity with the Canadian people along with members of the Filipino community.

Every year, thousands of people participate in Vancouver's Canada Day celebrations which bring together Canadians and visitors in celebrating national pride and living in a free, democratic, bilingual and multicultural society. With more than 120,000 Filipinos living in Vancouver alone, the Canada Day celebration has been an annual occasion for Filipinos to display their gratitude to their new home.

The day-long festivity featured numerous cultural presentations, musical events, and fun activities for the whole family. The celebration is capped by an awesome fireworks display after the parade. An estimated 250,000 people joined this year’s celebration. END
