PH Embassy, MARINA and DMW Officials Visit the Metropolitan College Maritime & Superyacht Academy

 Visit to one the simulation rooms

ATHENS 27 June 2024— Philippine Ambassador to Greece Giovanni E. Palec, along with officials from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) visited and met with officials of the Metropolitan College Maritime & Superyacht Academy in Piraeus on 07 June 2023.  Joining him were First Secretary and Consul Therese R. Cantada, MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan, MARINA Director of Regulation Service Ramon C. Hernandez, DMW Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Cooperation Mario Perpetuo Socorro Zinampan, DWM Assistant Secretary for Sea-based OFW Concerns Jerome Pampolina and OIC-Head, Maritime Training and Assessment Division of National Maritime Polytechnic, Captain Chito A. Go. 

During the visit, the Embassy, MARINA and DMW officials met with Ms. Vicky Apostolopoulou, Business Development Executive of the School of Maritime Studies and Captain Nikolaos Kritharis, Program Leader of the Deck Cadet Training Program, who discussed the various training programs offered by the maritime academy.  During the discussion, Capt. commended the professionalism and excellent work ethics of Filipino seafarers, making their services in demand in the shipping and seafaring industry.  The Philippine officials talked about possible cooperation through scholarships, sharing of best practices and necessary improvements to enable Filipino seafarers to become more competitive in terms of education, training and skills and to adapt to technological and other developments in the shipping sector.  After the meeting, the Philippine officials were given a tour of the facilities, including simulation rooms, of the academy.
