LISBON 04 July 2024 — Undersecretary for Migration Affairs Jose Eduardo De Vega visited the Philippine School in Greece (PSG) in Athens, Greece on 20 June 2024 and met with the school Directress Ms. Gracia Celia Nickel, school Principal, Ms. Wilhelmina M. Buado, the PSG teachers and the students.

Students of nursery levels warmly welcomed him with a song, followed by a tour of the school building and classrooms.  PSG provided an overview of the school and a presentation on school activities.

The teachers raised concerns such as extending scholarship grants for children of Overseas Filipinos who are enrolled in Philippine School Overseas; donations of computers to the school, and a more convenient processing of documents of teachers for deployment to Philippine School Overseas, among others.

Speaking to students, Usec, De Vega encouraged them to hold fast to their culture and values.  He said that the new generation are the best Ambassadors of the country.

The school, which was founded in 1997, offers the Philippine-based K to 12 Curriculum which caters a complete program from Early Childhood (Kindergarten) to Senior High School (SHS Grade 11 and Grade 12). It has a total of 172 students and 26 faculty and staff including the President and CEO, Mr. Manfred Nickel,  The school is an accredited Philippine School Overseas, recognized by the Greek Ministry of Education and the Philippine Department of Education.  It hosts a diverse community of learners coming from different cultural backgrounds and nationalities but unified with a vision of educational equality and excellence.

The PSG faculty and students were appreciative of the visit of Usec. Eduardo A. De Vega. END
