JAKARTA 08 July 2024 – The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines formally accepted the artwork donated by Ms. Rose Cameron, a well-known Filipino artist based in New York, during the diplomatic reception held on 12 June 2024 at the St. Regis Jakarta to commemorate the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

Born in Manila, Ms. Rose Cameron immigrated to the US in her early teens. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Art History and Fine Arts from Rutgers University and had a successful career in advertising, marketing, and fashion, before rediscovering her passion for contemporary arts. Her art is inspired by her childhood memories of the Philippines, as well as her struggle to adapt to her adoptive country.

The masterpiece entitled “From Mothers to Daughters” features her interpretation of basketwork and weaving through strong interconnected lines and rich texture of acrylic, reminiscent of the craft she learned from her mother. The same basketwork and weaving detail initially serve as a shield before slowly revealing the underlying beauty, values and life lessons from the artist’s mother through an abstract representation of the Sampaguita - the National Flower of the Philippines.

The artwork will be permanently displayed at the Philippine Official Residence and will be part of the Embassy’s art collection. END
