AMMAN 11 July 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, led by His Excellency Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, in collaboration with the Filipino artists collective, PintaKultura, showcased Philippine Culture and Heritage through an art exhibit entitled "Gawang Pamana," on 04-06 July 2024 at the Chancery of the Philippine Embassy. H.E. Orouba Al-Shamayleh, Assistant Secretary-General for Cultural Affairs from the Ministry of Culture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, graced the opening which included a ribbon cutting ceremony on 04 July 2024.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Santos introduced the PintaKultura to the diplomatic community and highlighted the theme of the exhibit. “The group aims to celebrate Filipino art and culture within Jordan and beyond through exhibitions like this, workshops and community engagements. The various paintings which are being exhibited reflect their artistic expressions of our identity as a people and nation, including storytelling that highlights themes of our people's resilience, nostalgia, and evolving Filipino diaspora experience.”, Ambassador Santos said.

The event, a first of its kind to be held at the Chancery, was attended by the Ambassadors of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Australia and their spouses. Representatives from international organizations based in Jordan, including the International Organization for Migration; as well as the American Bar Association in Jordan, King's Academy, Orange Habitat, Synapse Network (New York), and Out of Frame Amman were also in attendance.

“Gawang Pamana” means “creating a legacy”, which the artists identify themselves with as they often draw from their experiences and cultural backgrounds to infuse their art with unique perspectives. Their journey abroad, filled with challenges and triumphs, are testament to their enduring spirit and a bridge that connects Filipinos wherever they may be.

PintaKultura was founded in 2021 and is one of the Embassy's partners in promoting Philippine art, culture, and heritage in Jordan. The three-day exhibit also served as a vehicle to increase awareness and appreciation for the Philippines and the Filipino Community in this part of the world. By celebrating the creativity and talent of Filipino artists, PintaKultura and the Embassy hope to leave a lasting impression and build stronger ties between the two nations.

PintaKultura is composed of Med Guinto, Zhazha Ibarra, Rhowen Cariño, Jorry Crystal Porcia, Kaye Buenaflor, Snarfles Snarf, Jeromel Dela Rosa Lara, and their curator, Ms. Renalou Cabuyadao.

The event was also held in conjunction with the National Culture Consciousness Week by virtue of Proclamation No. 1148 signed on May 31, 1973 by President Ferdinand Marcos, celebrated annually in the Philippines. END
