Philippine Ambassador Presents Credentials to Azerbaijani President

BAKU 18 July 2024 – Philippine Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Henry S. Bensurto Jr., presented his credentials to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on 01 July 2024 at the Zagulba Presidential Palace in Baku. 

Ambassador Bensurto was joined by his spouse, Madame Ann Mariza Sanchez-Bensurto and Third Secretary Angela Tolentino. President Aliyev was joined by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev. 

Ambassador Bensurto conveyed the warm regards of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to his esteemed counterpart and thanked the Azerbaijani government for the reception accorded to his party. 

During the meeting immediately following the ceremony, Ambassador Bensurto congratulated President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 29) in November 2024. He further lauded Azerbaijan for their successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) from 2019–2023. 

The two sides discussed strengthening areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Philippines, including trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. 

Ambassador Henry S. Bensurto Jr. is the 11th Ambassador of the Philippines to Azerbaijan, with residence in Ankara, Türkiye. The Philippines and Azerbaijan have 32 years of diplomatic relations with ties being officially established on 27 March 1992. END.
