DENR Usec. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh delivers the Philippine national statement at the 2024 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) for Sustainable Development at the Trusteeship Council, UNHQ.
NEW YORK 22 July 2024 – DENR Undersecretary Analiza Rebuelta-Teh delivered the Philippine Statement during the General Debate of the 2024 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) for Sustainable Development held on 08-18 July 2024 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Speaking on the theme “From SDG Summit to the Summit of the Future,” Usec. Rebuelta-Teh emphasized that “the Philippines will continue to work with all countries and the UN for the sustainable development agenda as a trusted partner, peacemaker and pathfinder.”
Usec. Rebuelta-Teh stated that the country was focusing its efforts in key areas such as poverty reduction, quality education, climate action, environment protection, health and well-being, and gender empowerment.
She highlighted that the Philippines is embracing transition to upper middle-income country status by boosting innovation, promoting a sound business environment, and enhancing good governance.
Nevertheless, in view of the modest progress on the SDGs globally, she recognized that there is much more to be done to make sustainable development a reality for all.
In this connection, she reiterated the call for adequate climate finance and technology transfer for developing countries, inclusive digital transformation, and a UN Development System that is responsive to the challenges of developing countries, including middle-income countries.
The Undersecretary underscored the Philippines’ commitment to the SDGs and to playing a constructive role as a responsible member of the world community to support sustainable development not only in its own shores, but throughout the world, especially in the most vulnerable developing countries at risk of being left behind in a spirit of South-South cooperation.
She highlighted the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Manila in October this year which aims to galvanize cooperation for SDG 13 on climate action and other SDGs.
She likewise said that “The Philippines was honored to have been entrusted with hosting the Board for the Fund responding to Loss and Damage last week.”
The High-Level Political Forum is the main platform of the United Nations to promote and track progress in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs.
The Philippines has always participated actively in the HLPF. This year’s Philippine delegation consisted of an interagency team of DFA, DENR, NEDA officials and a representative from the youth sector, led by Ambassador Antonio M.
