Installation of Apolinario Mabini’s Bust at PH Embassy in Greece Marks 160th Birth Anniversary

ATHENS 26 July 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Athens, Greece installed the bust of Apolinario M. Mabini, the First Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, in commemoration of his 160th birth anniversary on 23 July 2024.

The installation was led by Ambassador Giovanni E. Palec, witnessed by Vice Consul Christopher Castillo, Labor Attaché Cynthia Cruz, Welfare Officer Marivic Mondina, Philippine School in Greece Principal Ms. Wilhelmina Buado and Deputy Principal Ms. Jazmin Imperial, and staff of the Embassy, Migrants Workers Office and Office of Workers Welfare Administration.

Ambassador Palec in his remarks shared the important legacy of Apolinario Mabini being a key figure in the Philippine revolution whose insights on governance and social justice remain relevant today.

Those present were reminded of Mabini’s significant contributions to the country’s fight for independence and his dedication to the principles of justice and self-determination.  

“Apolinario Mabini:  Talino at Paninindigan”, a 40-minute video from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines was shown followed by an interactive question and answer portion enjoyed by the participants.

PSG Principal Wilhelmina Buado expressed her appreciation of the event in increasing the awareness of Filipinos of the contributions of Filipino heroes particularly Apolinario Mabini to the freedom and democracy that we enjoy in the Philippines today. END
