ASEAN Joins 2024 Summer Festival at Victoria Drive

VANCOUVER 09 August 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General joined Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam in promoting ASEAN at the Summer Cultural and Asian Food Festival 2024 held at Jones Park in Vancouver on 27 July 2024.

The ASEAN booth displayed traditional décor, food items, and pamphlets on tourist destinations of the five ASEAN countries. For the Philippines, the Consulate General distributed information on Ilocos, Bicol, Surigao and Siargao, Iloilo and Guimaras, as well as Subic and Clark, and gave away Lala fish crackers and Chocnut candy bars to visitors of the booth.

The event opened with short messages from various officials and guests. Consul General Hendra Halim of Indonesia, current chairperson of the ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver, delivered the remarks on behalf of the committee.

Organized by the Victoria Drive Business Improvement Association (VDBIA), the festival showcased cultural performances from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and India, among others and featured about 50 exhibitors that included Filipino food vendors, Plato Filipino, Hapag Inihaw Grill and Sago to Go, as well as a non-food vendor, Hablon.

The Victoria Drive Business Improvement Association (VDBIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the community and businesses along Victoria Drive in Vancouver, British Columbia. The association celebrated its 17th Anniversary this year. END
