National Artist Bencab Among the Filipino Artists Showcased at Gajah Gallery in Jakarta

JAKARTA 16 August 2024 - Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina A. Jamoralin graced the opening reception of the art exhibit entitled POSSESSION: To Have And To Hold held on 10 August 2024 at the Gajah Gallery Jakarta.
The exhibit, curated by Ms. Joyce Toh, features nine (9) contemporary artists from the Philippines namely, Kawayan De Guia, Kiri Dalena, Leslie De Chavez, Marina Cruz, Nona Garcia, Rocky Cajigan, Rodel Tapaya, Mark Justiniani and National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, also known as BenCab.
The Filipino artists featured in this exhibit have been working in collaboration with Gajah Gallery’s foundry, the Yogya Art Lab (YAL) in Yogyakarta. Among the products of this artistic collaboration is BenCab’s bronze piece entitled “Reunion” depicting the emotional moment of an OFW reuniting with family after years of working abroad.
In her remarks, Ambassador Gina A. Jamoralin expressed her gratitude to Gallery Director Jasdeep Sandhu of the Gajah Gallery for organizing the event, which serves as an opportunity to promote Philippine artistic talent in Indonesia, and an affirmation of the friendly relations between the Philippines and Indonesia, particularly in the field of visual arts as the two countries celebrate 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. Ambassador Jamoralin also recognized the creative brilliance of the Filipino artists and their contributions to the world of art.
The art exhibit will run from 10 August to 08 September 2024 at the Gajah Gallery Jakarta. END
