16 July 2013- The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, through Deputy Consul General Daniel R. Espiritu, was invited by Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and Mr. Ted Gover, Adviser, to a meeting at its Headquarter in Los Angeles, California.
During the meeting, they informed the Deputy Consul General that the Simon Wiesenthal Center will launch a Holocaust Exhibit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on November 16, 2013.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is a widely respected and highly reputable institution in Los Angeles. Its Museum of Tolerance in Roxbury Drive, Los Angeles is one of the most popular museums in the city and one of its major local and international tourist destinations. It is highly influential among U.S. officials, both in the local and federal government, as well as in legal circles, as a major political and social force for ethnic, religious and social tolerance in the United States, especially in the multicultural setting of Southern California.
While initially established to combat anti-Semitism and spread awareness of the Holocaust, it now campaigns against all forms of racial bigotry and cooperates with all ethnic communities, including black, Asian, Indian and, even some moderate Islamic and Middle Eastern organizations in the United States to fight against racial discrimination in the media, the society and the workplace.
Among the new issues the Center is working on are its concerns regarding the recent proliferation of hate websites, terrorist recruitment on the internet, cyber terrorism and online instructions on the production of bombs and terror weapons.
The Center aims to keep alive the legacy of the Holocaust through education and social action. It is a multi-faceted institution with offices worldwide working to ensure that never again will any human life be so expendable and the world so distracted by indifference. END
