PH Embassy Explores Cooperation Opportunities with Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture

BAGHDAD 18 September 2024 – Philippine Ambassador and Consul General to Iraq Charlie Pacaña Manangan explored possible areas of cooperation between the Philippines and Iraq during his introductory meeting with Iraq’s Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Dr. Abbas Jaber Al-Maliki, on 16 September 2024.
Ambassador Manangan conveyed the Philippines’ thrust to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, with agriculture as a possible key area for cooperation.
“Our mission is to improve on existing relations and explore other possible areas of cooperation, such as in the field of agriculture, which plays a huge part in our countries’ histories,” Ambassador Manangan said.
Additionally, both countries share a focus on improving agricultural practices and methods as national policies to increase production and ensuring food security. This includes a focus on research and development.
Dr. Abbas conveyed his Ministry’s interest in forging agreements on technical cooperation with the Philippines, which can be discussed in the next Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) between the Philippines and Iraq.
Next year will mark the 50th year since both countries established diplomatic ties. END
