SINGAPORE 18 September 2024 - The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, in collaboration with the Gardens by the Bay, unveiled today the Gardens by the Bahay Kubo: A Fiesta of Orchids, the newest orchid display at the Cloud Forest.
Singapore’s Minister for Manpower, Dr. Tan See Leng graced the event as the Guest of Honor, along with Philippine Secretary for Migrant Workers, Hans Leo J. Cacdac. Also present were Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig, and CEO of Gardens by the Bay Mr. Felix Loh.
The exhibit, part of the celebrations marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the PH and Singapore, represents the first collaboration between the PH Embassy and Gardens by the Bay.
During the launch, Ambassador Macaraig emphasized the event’s unique significance, stating that it serves not only as a platform to showcase the natural beauty of PH orchids but also as a cultural bridge between Filipinos and Singaporeans. "The orchids we present today symbolize resilience and beauty, much like the relationship between our two countries—strong, growing, and ever-flourishing," the Ambassador remarked
Dr. Tan See Leng, on the other hand, highlighted the importance of people-to-people links, acknowledging the contributions of the Filipino community in Singapore as they call Singapore their second home, and the shared cultural values between the two nations, bringing their peoples closer.
This vibrant exhibit, running from 16 September to January 2025, is set against the backdrop of the bahay kubo, the traditional Filipino stilt house, surrounded by stunning Philippine natural landscapes and cultural displays. It highlights the country’s rich orchid biodiversity across different floral zones, from lush lowland rainforests to misty cloud forests, with the majestic waling-waling (Vanda sanderiana), known as the Queen of Orchids, as its centerpiece. Open to the public, the exhibit offers local and international visitors a unique glimpse into the PH rich biodiversity and vibrant cultural heritage. END
