Philippine Trade and Investment Office in Madrid Re-opens in Full Swing
(L-R: Consul Dyan Kristine Miranda-Pastrana, Mr. JC Barcelon, Commercial Counsellor Althea Karen P. Antonio, Consul General Mark Francis C. Hamoy, Consul Eric P. Valenzuela, and Consul Monika Kamille B. Limpo).
MADRID 19 September 2024 - Chargé d'affaires Mark Francis C. Hamoy, on behalf of Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier of the Philippine Embassy in Spain, welcomed Commercial Counsellor Althea Karen P. Antonio, head of the newly reopened Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC), on 06 September 2024.
Ambassador Lhuillier’s determination, and the national government’s efforts to re-open the PTIC in Spain, singularly aim to strengthen Philippine-Spanish trade relations, which stands at $1.08 billion. Meanwhile, DTI figures show that approved Spanish investments in the Philippines stand at a lean $2 million– still with much room for growth.
The Philippines’ priority areas for inward investments from Spain are renewable energy, water treatment and desalination, infrastructure and construction, agriculture and creative industries. Investments in these areas not only represent inflows of foreign funds– but also technology transfer, job creation, national and social development and sustainable economic growth.
Prior to the reopening of the PTIC in Madrid, which was closed in 2012, trade and investment promotion programs and activities were previously covered by the Economic Section of the Philippine Embassy in Madrid and the PTIC in Paris, France.
Also present during the meeting were Consul Eric P. Valenzuela, Consul Monika Kamille B. Limpo and Consul Dyan Kristine Miranda-Pastrana and Mr. Carlos Javier Barcelon, PTIC Investment Consultant. END.
