PH Ambassador to Thailand Clinched Commitment for the Protection of OFWs

BANGKOK 20 SEPTEMBER 2024 — Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes paid a courtesy call on Thai Minister of Labor Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, on 17 September 2024, clinching Thailand’s commitment to working more closely with the PH towards the conclusion of a labor cooperation agreement, with the Minister expressing the Thai side’s readiness to do so. Minister Phiphat acknowledged the PH efforts in initiating and proposing a draft labor agreement that has been in the works for several years, toward the protection and promotion of the welfare of Filipino migrant workers in Thailand.
The Minister also shared Thailand’s interest in pursuing technical cooperation and sharing of best practices to strengthen the support networks between the two countries and its peoples.
These developments reaffirm the long-standing friendship and close ties between the PH and Thailand, particularly as the two nations celebrate their 75 years of Diplomatic Relationship this year.
Both sides acknowledged the valuable contribution of Filipinos to Thailand’s nation-building, especially in the education and hospitality sectors, which employ many Filipinos.
The Ambassador expressed her gratitude to the Kingdom of Thailand for hosting and taking care of Filipinos in the country, who not only gained employment but have also made Thailand their second home. END
