PH Embassy in Romania, IOM Explore Opportunities for Cooperation
BUCHAREST 09 October 2024 –– Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim Siegfred Masangkay of the Philippine Embassy in Romania had an introductory meeting with Mr. Mircea Mocanu, Head of Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)-Romania at the IOM country headquarters to exchange views on the issues and developments impacting the growing Filipino diaspora in the country.
Mr. Masangkay informed the IOM-Romania head that Philippine Embassy will stand ready to promote the welfare and protect the rights of Filipinos in Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova. He also conveyed appreciation to IOM-Romania for being proactive in engaging with and providing various assistance to migrant Filipinos in Romania that promote humane and orderly migration, decent work, and ensure fair and ethical labor practices.
Mr. Mocanu noted the growing migrant Filipino workers in Romania citing the high compatibility of Filipinos in the labor receiving country. He also acknowledged the Filipino workers’ strong work ethic and positive contributions to the host country.
Collaborative engagements between the Embassy and IOM-Romania were explored that would further benefit the increasing number of Filipinos in Romania while assuring close coordination on emerging migration concerns and social protection.
According to the latest data, there are around 2,000 Filipinos in Romania, the majority of which are employed in factories, automative and production lines, and in households. END
