University of Santo Tomas, Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, and KU Leuven Team Up for VLIR-UOS Project on Telerehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities
Dr. Kirsten Schrayen of the Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, alongside UST researchers, presents the VLIR-UOS project entitled “Promoting Health Equality: Interprofessional Telerehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities in the Philippines” a the Embassy, 03 September 2024, Brussels.
BRUSSELS 08 October 2024 – The University of Santo Tomas – College of Rehabilitation Sciences (UST-CRS), in partnership with Belgian institutions Thomas More University of Applied Sciences and KU Leuven, have partnered on a project entitled “Promoting Health Equality: Interprofessional Telerehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities in the Philippines” funded by Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad – Universitaire Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (VLIR-OUS – Flemish Interuniversities Council – University Development Cooperation).
The project aims to break ground on effective telerehabilitation services for adult persons with disabilities in Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal, by identifying disability profiles of the population, exploring facilitators and barriers to telerehabilitation in remote areas, developing effective interventions for PWDs, and providing capacity-building opportunities for Binangonan’s local policy and societal stakeholders.
Seven researchers from UST, led by Assistant Dean Ma. Georgina D. Mojica and Assistant Director Christian Rey D. Rimando, visited the Embassy on 03 October 2024 together with representatives of the Thomas More University of Applied Science headed by Dr. Kirsten Schrayen to present their project to Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda and Embassy officials.
Ambassador Ledda assured the project proponents of the Embassy’s support and shared the Embassy’s engagements with Belgian universities to explore possible partnerships with Philippine institutions. END
