AGANA 21 October 2024 – In celebration of Philippine National Indigenous Peoples Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Guam launched an exhibit entitled, “Habi ng Kultura: Likhang Katutubo” (“Weave of Culture: Indigenous Creations”), featuring textiles and accessories made by various Philippine indigenous groups, at Sentro Rizal Agana on 16 October 2024.

The launch and ribbon cutting was led by Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, joined by Consul General Adelina Jose of Palau, Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) Director Angie Taitague, and Filipino Community of Guam President Mr. Patrick Luces. Esteemed leaders of the Filipino community and partners from the media were also present during the event.

The exhibit showcases the vibrant textiles and accessories created by the indigenous peoples of the Philippines, particularly, the Igorots from Northern Luzon and the Lumad and Muslim indigenous peoples from Mindanao.

In her welcome remarks, Consul General Lemque said, “The Consulate has chosen to put together this textile and accessories exhibit to showcase not only the skill and artistry of our indigenous peoples but also to honor the deep cultural heritage and knowledge passed down through generations. Each woven thread, every bead pattern is more than just a display of craftsmanship—it represents centuries of wisdom, resourcefulness, and identity.

The exhibit is open to the public from 17 to 31 October 2024, from 9:00 am to 4:00 p.m. everyday, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. END
