VIENNA 28 October 2024 — The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (Ontario Tech) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on an international research framework to promote and develop cooperation in the field of subcritical nuclear assembly. 

Through the MoU, the institutes aim to cooperate on joint and coordinated research programs in subcritical nuclear assembly by fostering the exchange of researchers, staff, and students, realizing research-related projects and events, reciprocal use of facilities, and other forms of academic, scientific, and technical cooperation. 

PNRI Director Carlo Arcilla and Ontario Tech University Vice President Lesley Jacobs signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutes. The signing was witnessed by Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative Evangelina A. Bernas, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, and Canadian Ambassador and Permanent Representative Troy Lulashnyk.

The signing was held on the sidelines of the  International Conference on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and their Applications being held in Vienna from 21-25 October 2024. END
