Xiamen14 July 2014 – Philippine Consul General in Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores graced the 21st Commencement Exercises of the Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) held in the evening of June 4 at the Grand Ballroom of the Le Meridien Hotel Xiamen.

As the evening’s guest of honor, Consul General Flores delivered an inspirational message for the 18 graduates of the MXIS Upper School, as well as the 200 guests gathered that evening, which included MXIS administrators, faculty students and parents, as well as prominent members of the Filipino community in Xiamen.

In his remarks, the Consul General exhorted the students to treat life as a continuous learning process since learning does not end with graduation.  Drawing from his rich experiences, first as an educator and then as a veteran Filipino diplomat, he cited that going places, meeting people and working with colleagues are all opportunities to enrich one’s knowledge of the world and so we all should be open to learn from one another.

Finally, the Consul General posed the challenge to the MXIS graduates to become productive, responsible and generous individuals of their respective communities, ever mindful of the need to realize collective ideals and aspirations towards nation-building and development.

Established 21 years ago as Fujian province’s first international school, MXIS has grown to become a paragon of education for youth from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond with over 400 students coming from more than 20 different nations.

Xiamen 2MXIS is also an invaluable partner of the Consulate General in fulfilling its mandate in Xiamen and southeastern China.  Aside from being instrumental in bringing together the Filipino community in Xiamen, MXIS has also facilitated and extended generous assistance during visits of Philippine officials to China and in the Consulate General’s cultural promotion efforts.  END.
