HONG KONG 30 October 2024 — During the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) 2024 held from 13 to 16 October 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong called for foreign-owned digital technology and electronic startups to locate and “Make It Happen” in the Philippines through the over 400 world-class economic zones (ecozones).

The Consulate’s booth, located in the Startup zone, offered an opportunity to draw special attention to what the Philippines can offer to foreign startups, particularly through informational brochures and materials that highlight opportunities and incentives available to locators in Philippine ecozones and their respective administrators.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has world-class, ready-to-occupy, environment-friendly, secured and competitively priced offices and facilities in its Information Technology (IT) Parks and Centers, where locators therein can enjoy incentives overseen and administered by PEZA.

The Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation – Industrial Estate (PHIVIDEC-IE)’s PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental Special Economic Zone (PIEMO-SEZ), with its new vision of a more progressive and ecologically sustainable industrial community, pushes for clean industries, particularly those within the electronic sector, to locate on the remaining available land within its 3,000-hectare estate.

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) offers a holistic investor experience particularly its unique geographical position that enables foreign investors to mix work with leisure, due to its Freeport’s close proximity to the Clark International Airport, the tourism opportunities therein and in nearby municipalities and provinces for short-term business visitors, and the thriving expat community in Subic.

In addition to informational brochures from PEZA, PHIVIDEC and SBMA, the Consulate’s booth also displayed a comprehensive audio-visual presentation from PEZA that highlighted President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr.’s push towards enhancing the Philippines’ role as a global investment destination through ecozones, and general information brochures (in English and Mandarin) on investing in the Philippines from the Philippine Board of Investments. Inquiries on tourism and visa matters were also answered with the help of the Department of Tourism’s online tourism platform and the Consulate’s Visa Section, respectively.

Meanwhile, Euro CB Philippines, an electronics manufacturer based in Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Cebu which specializes in Bluetooth technology, also participated as a returning exhibitor. During the Fair, Euro CB showcased its products, namely:  1) "Sleddo,” a hands-free kit for skiers which may be used with ski gloves; and 2) "Roamee,” a hands-free kit for bikers that allows instant installation on a bike helmet. Euro CB recently participated in the 20th Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) last April.

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The Fair was dubbed as the “World’s Leading Electronics Marketplace,” which showcased cutting-edge products and innovative ideas and solutions to global buyers from over 3,000 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions around the world. The four-day event ran concurrently with electronicAsia which collectively attracted more than 60,000 industry buyers from 136 countries and regions. END
