PH Hosts 17th ASEF Classroom Network Conference on Artificial Intelligence

Singapore 18 November 2024 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig graced the Opening Ceremony of the 17th ASEF Classroom Network Conference (17ASEFClassNet), co-hosted by the Philippine Normal University (PNU) and the Asia-Europe Foundation, on 11 November 2024 at the Geronima T. Pecson Main Auditorium of the PNU.

The ongoing 17ASEFClassNet, with the theme, “Learning about AI and Learning with AI” runs from 12 to 15 November 2024. One hundred twenty (120) participants from Asian and European countries have converged at the PNU to explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, including its challenges and opportunities, and to study innovative teaching practices from various countries.

The event is supported by the Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN), the Global Citizen Education Group, Technological University of the Philippines, Rizal Technological University, De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, Abiva Publishing House, and C&E Adaptive Learning Solutions.

Ambassador Macaraig, who also serves as ASEF Governor from the Philippines, joined Ambassador Beata Stoczyńska, ASEF’s Executive Director, Dr. Bert Tuga, PNU President and Dr. Marilyn U. Balagtas, Vice President for Academics, PNU, Mr. John Carlo Ramos, Executive Director of the Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) and Dr. Reynaldo Ramos, TUP President, in receiving the participants during the Welcome Reception on 11 November. 

In his remarks, Ambassador Macaraig expressed pride in hosting the 17th ASEF Classroom Network Conference in Manila, focusing on the timely theme of AI in education. He also highlighted the Philippines' commitment to digital transformation in education, emphasizing initiatives like DepEd DigiEd 2028 and partnerships with organizations such as ASEF and UNESCO to ensure ethical, inclusive, and transformative use of AI in learning.
