COPENHAGEN 04 December 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Denmark conducted a workshop on Philippine folk dances at the Embassy Hall on 22 November 2024, in partnership with the Philippine Cultural Guild of Denmark (PCGD).
The flagship project was attended by 41 participants, deepening their knowledge on Philippine folk dances, their characteristics, origins, importance to culture, occasions as to when they are performed, and basic dance steps.
During the workshop, participants were taught the La Jota Cagayana, a flamenco-inspired courtship dance from the Cagayan region, and Alitaptap, a dance from the Batangas province that mimics the movements of fireflies performed to ¾ time music.
Attendees who participated during the tutorials enjoyed the dance workshop and expressed looking forward for a similar activity in the future. With the success of this initial project, the Embassy plans to hold more workshops next year featuring folk dances originating from Visayas and Mindanao. END
