Newly Formed Philippines-Portugal Chamber of Commerce Sets Sights on Bilateral Trade Expansion

LISBON 20 December 2024 – The Philippines-Portugal Chamber of Commerce is laying the foundation for greater economic collaboration between the two nations following the meeting of its representatives with the Philippine Embassy on 16 December 2024 in Lisbon.

Officially registered in October 2023, the Chamber, which currently comprises a small group of nucleus companies, is working to finalize its by-laws, expand its membership, and identify key sectors for bilateral trade and investment.

Antonio Viñal, the Chamber’s representative, requested the Philippine Embassy’s involvement in meetings with Portuguese agencies and the Philippine Commercial Counselor to identify areas that present the most potential for the enhancement of bilateral trade. Further, the Chamber plans on collaborating with the Philippine Embassy on a seminar that would highlight the Philippines’ profile as an ideal trade destination before the Portuguese business community.

Philippine Ambassador to Portugal Paul Raymund P. Cortes expressed his enthusiasm to partner with the Chamber to realize these initiatives and emphasized the Philippine Embassy’s support for the Chamber’s programs in 2025. He also highlighted the importance of involving the Philippine Commercial Counselor for Lisbon and the Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo de Portugal (AICEP) in these efforts.

The official registration of the Philippines-Portugal Chamber of Commerce marks a significant milestone in bilateral trade relations, and its leadership is eager to drive forward a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations. END
