KUWAIT 14 January 2025 — The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait officially opened the "Weave Your Identity" cultural exhibit on 05 January 2025 in celebration of Philippine Tropical Fabrics Month and the Centennial Year of National Living Treasure Magdalena Gamayo.

The exhibit, located at the Embassy’s Cultural Heritage Corner, showcases traditional textiles, garments, and handcrafted cultural items from Mindanao, mainly Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi. Additionally, various items from other regions and provinces of the Philippines are featured in the exhibit throughout the month.

In tandem with the “Weave Your Identity” exhibit, the Heritage Corner also honors Magdalena Gamayo, a National Living Treasure known for her mastery of Ilocano Abel weaving, with a video exhibit showing her inspiring legacy as she marked her centennial year in 2024.

The exhibits aim to promote Philippine cultural heritage, foster appreciation for traditional crafts, and strengthen the connection among Kuwaitis, Filipinos, and other expatriates. Also featured in the exhibits is a large replica of the vinta, a traditional sailing vessel in the southern Philippines. END
