OSLO 20 January 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo represented the country at the 3rd Follow-up Meeting on the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution held in Oslo on 15 January 2025 at the Oslo Rådhus (City Hall).
The Philippine delegation joined 84 other delegations from countries and international organizations in the meeting, which focused on protecting and strengthening the key functions of the Palestinian state in the light of the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, such as territorial integrity and state institutions, reconstruction and recovery, including service delivery to citizens and ensuring that the Palestinian Government is ready to undertake its duty to its citizens.
As head of delegation, Ambassador to Norway Enrico T. Fos made an intervention during the meeting, mentioning that the Philippines have bilateral relations with both Israel and Palestine, and reiterated its support for a two-state solution, the revival of the peace process and ceasefire, humanitarian support to Palestine, and that the country doubled its contribution to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
“The Philippines reiterates its steadfast support for a two-state solution, consistent with past agreements and relevant UN resolutions. Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve a future where their rights, aspirations, and security are recognized and upheld. Our country has never ceased our aid in UNRWA, recognizing the critical role of this agency in delivering life-saving humanitarian aid,” Ambassador Fos said.
“The Philippines yearns for a Middle East where peace and stability reign, where a diversity of peoples living together in peace, where peoples who have lived in insecurity for several generations, will finally be able to live together in peace and security,” he added.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide gave the welcome remarks, and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, the event’s guest of honor, gave a keynote speech. The two officials highlighted the importance of addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and the need for concerted global support and action to address the plight of the people there.
The Global Alliance was organized in September 2024 at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly this year in New York, which aimed to address the situation in Israel and Palestine after the 07 October 2024 attack, led by Saudi Arabia, the European Union, and Norway. After the meeting in New York, follow up meetings were held in Riyadh and Brussels. The meeting in Oslo will be the third meeting of the said alliance. END
