Philippine Embassy in Madrid Signs MOU with Prado Museum
Philippine Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier and Director Miguel Falomir Faus of the Museo Nacional del Prado signed the MOU on 23 January 2025.
MADRID 06 February 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Madrid and the Museo Nacional del Prado signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing a shared commitment to collaborate on exchanges of art, research, study, expertise and display of 19th century Philippine art. The MOU was signed by Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier, and Miguel Falomir Faus, the Prado Museum’s Director, on behalf of the Philippine Embassy and the Museo Nacional del Prado respectively.
The signing ceremony was attended by Director Francisco Tardio Baeza and Mr. Carlos Navarro of the Prado Museum; as well as Consul General Mark Francis C. Hamoy and Consul Dyan Kristine B. Miranda-Pastrana, Head of the Philippine Embassy’s Cultural Section.
Ambassador Lhuillier remarked that “the MOU symbolizes the strength of Philippine-Spain bilateral relations. Through initiatives like this, we reaffirm our commitment to cultural diplomacy, to building bridges that bring us closer together, and to ensuring that the legacy of our shared past continues to inspire future generations.”
During the signing ceremony, the Philippine Embassy also turned over the books donated by the Ortigas Foundation to the Prado Museum.
The Prado Museum plans to unveil its Philippine art collection for the first time in the next few years through a temporary exhibition. END
