milan21 July 2014 - The Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) Golden Classic 2014 is being held in the Auditorium di Piazza della Libertà in Bergamo, Italy from July 12 to 20. There are seven grandmasters of the world who are competing, namely: Wesley So of Philippines, Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, Baadur Jobava of Georgia, Zoltan Almasi of Hungary, Emil Sutovsky of Israel, Daniele Vocaturo of Italy, and Sabino Brunello of Italy. The first edition of the ACP Golden Classics was won by Vassily Ivanchuk in Amsterdam 2012.

 

Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro conveyed her praises and congratulations to Wesley So, a World University Chess Champion, during their meeting in Bergamo. Mr. So in turn, thanked the Consulate General for the words of encouragement and support.

 

 

Mr. So is a native of Bacoor, Cavite where he pursued his primary and secondary education. He was the youngest Filipino International Master at the age of 12, and earned the Grandmaster title at the age of 14 years, making him the 8th youngest Grandmaster in the world. Mr. So is presently studying at the Webster University in Missouri, where he is following the Spice program, created by former world chess champion Susan Polgar to support young talents in the chess world.
